Meet Jamel and Dieter - Technicians at Bekina

Today we’re putting the spotlight on Jamel and Dieter, both technicians at Bekina. Dieter has been part of the Bekina family for 6 years, and Jamel joined the team around 2.5 years ago. Read on to find out what makes their job so varied and how innovation makes their work at Bekina even more varied.

Could you tell us a bit more about your role at Bekina?

A job as a technician is very varied. “Among other things, we’re responsible for resolving faults and breakdowns, keeping the machinery running, and carrying out preventive maintenance on both the production facilities and the buildings,” says Jamel. “As technicians, we actually help out with all sorts of things,” Dieter continues. “Our job isn’t limited to just fixing faults. We also step in as plumbers, carpenters or even gardeners… wherever a bit of technical know-how is needed. In addition, we regularly contribute to various automation projects within production.”

Why did you choose to work here? 

“Even during my first tour of the company, I noticed that Bekina is strongly committed to automation. I always go by my gut feeling, and it felt right here straight away,” says Jamel. “I hadn’t heard of Bekina before, but when I read the job advert, I was immediately impressed by the diversity of companies within the Bekina Group,” adds Dieter. “As a technician, every day brings something different and we work across the various business units.” 

What’s been your favourite project so far?

“Over the years, I’ve been able to work on quite a few great projects,” says Dieter. “For Bekina Boots, for example, I was closely involved in the automation of the packaging process and the robotisation of the production lines, as well as in the recent construction of Bekina Boots’ latest automated production line.” For Jamel, too, this latest project stands out. “To see it evolve from the very start into what it has become today was certainly special. These are challenging but fascinating projects. Bekina is strongly committed to modernisation. It is a company that wants to grow – and continues to grow.”

What do you like best about your job?

“Troubleshooting is what I enjoy most. It’s all about keeping everything running smoothly. You need to be very focused to do it, but I like that,” Jamel begins. “Personally, I really enjoy the fact that you end up somewhere different every day and don’t have a fixed workplace. From the packing department at Bekina Boots to production at Bekina Compounds. That makes for a lot of variety,” says Dieter.

What makes Bekina unique as an employer?

“We’re given a great deal of trust and freedom at Bekina, which we really appreciate. There’s scope to try things out and find suitable solutions ourselves,” both Jamel and Dieter confirm.

Would you recommend this place to others? If so, why?

“Absolutely. You’ll be joining a top-class team and will always have varied work,” says Dieter. “There’s a great sense of camaraderie within our technical team and a pleasant working atmosphere throughout the company,” adds Jamel.
