Bekina supports local projects such as Heerlijkheid Axelwalle

As a proud partner of Streekfonds Oost-Vlaanderen, Bekina is committed to helping facilitate social and sustainable initiatives in the region through the regional network #Streekmotor23. One of these projects is Heerlijkheid Axelwalle, run by the school farm of the same name, Axelwalle, in Heurne. We paid a visit during the official opening of their crowdfunded project. 

Local engagement is in Bekina’s DNA. We operate globally, but our day-to-day operations and production are still based in Kluisbergen. That was one of the driving forces behind our decision to enter into a partnership with Streekfonds Oost-Vlaanderen, so that we can help create a local impact. This project is a perfect match for the values we ourselves are strongly committed to, such as: community spirit, inclusion, sustainability and respect for nature. 

Axelwalle is home to Zorg in 't Groen (ZiG), a unique project run by the Bernardus Schools that works preventatively to tackle school drop-out rates among young people. Here, specialist knowledge, care and respect for nature and the environment flourish. Their crowdfunding project, ‘Heerlijkheid Axelwalle’, is a new, community-building space for relaxation and socialising in the neighbourhood, featuring, amongst other things, a cosy picnic area and a bee hotel with a book exchange cabinet. This project has been made possible in part by the East Flanders Regional Fund and its partners, including Bekina.

Besides our financial support, we also donated several free Bekina Boots safety boots so that the young people can work in comfort and safety on the school farm.

During the speech by Hugo Maes, coordinator of Zorg in ’t Groen, a special word of thanks was also extended to Bekina for our support. This appreciation shows us once again why it is so important to invest in local initiatives that share our values.
